Safety Professional

OVERALL JOB PURPOSE: Assist the Safety Manager and mine management team in the development and implementation of safety and training programs, as well as ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations and company policies.    

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Conduct job observations and inspections of surface and underground areas of the mine.
• Assist in scheduling and conducting required regulatory training, supervisor training and other training activities.
• Assist in serving as a liaison between the company and State and Federal agencies.
• Must have organizational and communication skills to motivate other people to work in a safe and productive manner.
• Assist with respirable dust sampling and noise surveys as required.
• Assist with inspection and recordkeeping of all SCSR units, refuge shelters and gas detectors.
• Maintain workforce training records.
• Conduct hazard training of visitors.
• Disseminate safety information to all levels of hourly and management workforce.
• Assist mine management in scheduling and conducting mine site safety audits.
• Assist in citation prevention and conferencing of citations.
• Assist in injury prevention and conduct injury and near miss investigations, and make recommendations to prevent similar occurrences.
• Engage and collaborate with the BBS steering team to reduce exposure to risk
• Other related duties as assigned.

PREFERRED/REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

• WV Foreman Certification required
• 3+ years underground mining experience required
• Possess, or able to obtain, MSHA Instructor Certification
• Possess, or able to obtain, MSHA Dust/Maintenance & Calibration Certification
• EMT-M certification preferred.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent safety and attendance record required.
• Display excellent communication (written and oral) skills with emphasis on motivational ability.
• Knowledge of mine rescue and assists with training of team.
